About Us
A Coffee Shop with a Mission
Our shop employs and develops youth aging out of foster care.
Since opening on May 17th, 2018, these young adults are the heart and soul of all we do. Our program encourages them to become empowered and independent by providing and teaching basic needs, such as mental wellness, financial literacy, housing, transportation, and career skills.

Our Story

At a young age, Emily Schmidt desired to open a coffee shop. As she grew, got married, and had 3 children of her own, her dream remained. She began pursuing coffee shop ownership while she and her husband considered adoption. It shocked her so many youth are aging out of foster care without a permanent family or a plan for the future.
After praying, planning, and waiting on the Lord, the idea of the Cracked Pot Coffee Shop was born! Emily decided to open a faith-based, non-profit coffee shop in her hometown that employs foster youth aging out of the system.

Meet The Management

Mary Wheeler
General Manager
Mary was born and raised in upstate New York. She met her husband, Tim, in Chicago and has been blessed with four daughters and seven grandkids! Tim and Mary have been in various forms of ministry and both of them love learning about and being in the middle of different cultures. What excites Mary the most is when she can help others learn to savor Christ more than she does. Then help that person see their self worth in Jesus, help them to see the gifts He has given them and then encourage them to grow and use those gifts to make much of Jesus. The mission of The Cracked Pot does just that with those in the program!

Her mentors Mike and Lindsey McConahy recommended Takia join the Cracked Pot team. Now, she believes her reason for being at this job is to work for Christ and represent him in everything she does. She loves whom the Lord is showing her she is through our youth and the other staff. Hobbies outside of work include being a mom, cooking, baking, and reading.
