Meet The Team
Founder & Executive Director
Emily Schmidt was born and raised in Mechanicsburg. At a young age, she developed a love for coffee and a desire to someday open a coffee shop. After marrying her husband and having three children, Emily began pursuing her dream of opening a coffee shop. At the same time, Emily and her husband considered adopting a child. When considering adopting a child, Emily learned many older children are aging out of foster care without a permanent family or a plan for their future. After much prayer, planning and waiting on the Lord for His plan and timing, the idea of the Cracked Pot Coffee Shop was born! Emily decided to open a faith-based, non-profit coffee shop that will employ foster children aging out of foster care in her hometown. Emily is excited for this opportunity and what the Lord has in store for the Cracked Pot.
Katie Megonnell is a 2014 Messiah grad who has made her home in Central PA. Her greatest passions are knowing Jesus more each day, family, connecting, and coffee. For years, Katie dreamt of living out this passion in a coffee-shop environment, and God alone made it happen! While at her previous job, she grew more interested in helping out in the Foster Care world. She knew God was calling her to deeper waters and could not be more thrilled to call The Cracked Pot her work-home. In September of 2019, she married her best friend, Janard Megonnell, right outside The Cracked Pot where they first got to know each other! Together, they seek to fill needs wherever the Lord leads them and to be a light in this amazing community, including The Cracked Pot.
Michael Schaffer is shift manager at The Cracked Pot. He also serves as the male coach for the youth in The Cracked Pot’s program. His favorite drink is a White Chocolate Matcha. Outside of work, you can often still find Michael sitting at The Cracked Pot (or other local shops), working on his website, Memes For Jesus, or reading a book.
Dani is the Assistant Manager at The Cracked Pot. She loves Jesus, people, and coffee, and is deeply passionate about building His Kingdom through loving and serving people well. Dani has just over four years of experience as both barista and shift supervisor at various Starbucks stores, and she continues to pursue education and excellence in her knowledge, understanding, and craft. Dani also has several years of experience in ministry, and her heart is to see people grow in their walk with Jesus. She has always felt called to serve in ministry in some way and has felt that marrying that calling with her love of coffee provides unique opportunities to do just that. Dani is drawn to Cracked Pot's heart to love and serve the vulnerable, and she is excited to walk alongside the youth as they grow through the program, as well as to serve our customers, staff, and volunteers. In her free time, Dani enjoys hiking, singing reading, writing, and traveling.
